Delectable Jelly Moon Cakes

Every year, the Chinese celebrate the mid-autumn festival with the exchange of moon cakes. Traditional, moon cakes are Chinese pastries filled usually with thick lotus seed paste surrounded by relatively thin crust and may contain salted duck egg yolks. These delectable cakes are usually eaten in small wedges accompanied by Chinese tea. These days, there are a variety of different variations of this delicious pastry, some differentiated by the different regions in China and others differentiated by the creativity of moon cake chefs. I came across pictures of these delectable jelly moon cakes posted by my high school friend, Cynthia on face book and decided that the rest of the world had to know about them. Don’t they look absolutely YUM! A full time employee and mom, Cynthia produces them herself from home in a variety of colours and flavours including dragon fruit, mango, white lotus seed, peanut paste, lychee and “cendol” (a Malaysian dessert). These make great gifts for friends and family. For those of you who are interested in purchasing these special jelly moon cakes for friends and family, Cynthia accepts orders (available for collection in Kuala Lumpur only) upon request, email Cynthia at: cynthia.pang1@gmail.com
